The Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF) is a competitive grants program that helps local governments establish records management programs or develop new program components. The Role of Records Manageres in Providing Educator Access to Primary Sources

As the managers of historical records, you hold important resources for educating the next generation of engaged citizens. Learn what types of records you hold at your organization that can be used by teachers in their classrooms. You've been appointed the new Records Management Officer (RMO) for your local government without any prior knowledge about what that position entails. This session outlined and described ten initial steps any new RMO can take as they begin to assume an active role as their local government's RMO. As each step is listed, panel members provided insight on how new RMOs can carry out those steps. Link to presentation

Recruiting and Working with a Records Management Consultant

As local governments take on projects to enhance or expand their records management programs, there is sometimes a need to recruit and work with a records management consultant on the grovernment's records management project. Records Management consultants can draw on their expertise to offer specific technical assistance to local governements carrying out a records management project. Such assistance can prove to be crucial to the successful outcome of a records managment project. This session provided practical advice and suggestions for local governemnt officials interested in recruiting and working with a records management consultant. Link to presentation

Melius Award for Excellence in Record Management Award is given to a NYALGRO member who demonstrates outstanding service to his/her local government and New York's record management community.  For more information on the Award or to nominate a deserving NYALGRO member please fill out the NOMINATION FORM  Deadline is April 30, 2023.

Local government retention and disposition schedule:

The Retention and Dispositon Schedule for New York Local Government Records (LGS-1) is a single comprehensive retention schedule covering records of all types of local governments.  It consolidates and revises the CO-2, ED-1, MI-1 and MU-1 Schedules.

For adopting the LGS-1, a fillable PDF copy of a model resolution form is available.
